CSM Exam Comparison

Edureify alongside Scrum Alliance's required CSM course

CSM certification requires an accredited course — here's what that covers and where a readiness loop still helps.

5 features compared Updated 15 September 2026 Scrum Alliance exam

Edureify vs Scrum Alliance in short

Edureify and Scrum Alliance solve different halves of CSM preparation. Scrum Alliance gives you material to work through. Edureify adds the parts it leaves out: diagnostic baseline test, predictive readiness score and post-course retention review. The practical difference is that you finish with a predicted ready-by date instead of a completion percentage. Pick Scrum Alliance if you mainly need content at the lowest price, and Edureify if you need to know when you are actually ready to sit the exam.

About the CSM exam

The CSM is Scrum Alliance's foundational Scrum Master credential — and unlike PSM I, it requires attending a live, two-day course from a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) before you're eligible to take the exam at all. The course itself covers the material tested on the (generally straightforward) exam that follows, and certification includes a two-year Scrum Alliance membership. The real preparation challenge for most candidates isn't the exam itself, but retaining two intensive days of material well enough to apply it confidently afterward.

The Edureify Readiness System

Edureify runs on one loop: a Diagnostic maps exactly where you stand across the Scrum concepts covered in your required CST course before you study anything, an adaptive Roadmap turns that into a day-by-day plan weighted toward your actual gaps, a self-paced Practice Loop of questions, mock exams, and spaced review builds mastery topic by topic, and an Intervention layer steps in the moment your progress stalls. Every session feeds back into a live Readiness Score that predicts when you'll be exam-ready and names the specific topics still holding you back — not a completion percentage frozen at the end of a course.

Diagnostic

A calibrated baseline test, taken solo, that maps exactly where you stand across the Scrum concepts covered in your required CST course before you study anything.

Adaptive roadmap

A day-by-day plan built from your diagnostic and rebuilt automatically as you progress — weighted toward your actual gaps, not a generic syllabus.

Practice loop

Practice questions, mock exams, and spaced-repetition review, self-paced, with mastery tracked across the Scrum concepts covered in your required CST course.

Readiness prediction

A live score with a predicted ready-by date and the specific topics still dragging it down, recalculated after every session.

Certifying a team for CSM, not just yourself?

Edureify also runs as a team platform for L&D leaders: every team member gets the same self-paced diagnostic-to-readiness loop, and managers get a live dashboard showing each person's Readiness Score, predicted ready-by date, and what's specifically holding them back — plus a portfolio view for reporting on CSM readiness across the whole team.

How Scrum Alliance approaches CSM prep

Unlike PSM I, the CSM is not a self-study certification: Scrum Alliance requires candidates to attend a live, two-day course taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) before they're even eligible to take the online exam. Edureify doesn't replace that requirement — no self-paced product can, since it's a hard eligibility rule set by Scrum Alliance, not a knowledge gap.

What the mandatory course doesn't guarantee is that you'll retain everything from two intensive days well enough to pass the exam that follows, or feel confident applying Scrum concepts in an interview afterward. CSTs vary in teaching style and depth, and the course itself doesn't track your individual readiness the way a diagnostic-based system does.

Edureify's role here is specifically as a companion, not a substitute: after you've completed your required CST course, the Diagnostic can show you exactly which Scrum concepts didn't fully land, and the roadmap builds a short, targeted review before you sit the exam — rather than hoping two days of live training was enough on its own.

Questions people ask before choosing

Can I skip the course and just study for the CSM exam?

No — Scrum Alliance requires you to complete an accredited course from a Certified Scrum Trainer before the exam becomes available to you. This isn't a knowledge requirement Edureify or any other resource can substitute for.

Is the CSM exam hard to pass after the required course?

Most candidates pass, since the course covers the tested material directly, but two days is a lot to retain — a quick review afterward can help it stick.

What does Edureify actually help with for CSM, then?

Post-course review and readiness tracking — confirming what stuck from your CST training and closing any remaining gaps before you sit the exam or step into the role.

Edureify alongside Scrum Alliance: how they fit together

The CST course is non-negotiable for CSM — there's no way around booking and attending it.

Where Edureify helps is afterward: making sure what you learned in those two days actually translates into exam readiness and real on-the-job confidence.

Think of it less as a competitor and more as insurance on the investment you've already made in the required course.
