The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a national examination in India conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission. It determines the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD programs in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is held twice annually, typically in June and December.

Exam Structure:

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers:

Paper II: Subject-specific Paper

This paper evaluates the knowledge of candidates in their chosen subject. It comprises 100 MCQs, each carrying 2 marks, totaling 200 marks. Candidates must select a subject based on their postgraduate specialization. The syllabus for Paper II is extensive and varies according to the chosen subject. Exam Duration:

Both papers are conducted in a single session with a total duration of 3 hours:

• There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Passing Marks (Qualifying Criteria):

• General Category: At least 40% aggregate marks.
• Reserved Categories (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD/Transgender): At least 35% aggregate marks.
