Quality management certifications for professionals who improve processes
Lean Six Sigma is the standard for process improvement. ISTQB is the standard for software testing. Three credentials covering quality across manufacturing, services and software.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) certifies professionals who can lead process improvement projects using the DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control). Green Belts typically spend 25–50% of their time on improvement projects while maintaining their primary role. LSSGB is the most widely held Six Sigma credential and is valued across manufacturing, healthcare, finance, technology and service industries.
Green Belt is the entry to Lean Six Sigma and is right if you want to lead improvement projects as a secondary part of your role. Black Belt is for full-time quality professionals who lead major transformation programmes and mentor Green Belts. Most people earn Green Belt first and spend 2–3 years gaining project experience before pursuing Black Belt. Black Belt commands a salary premium of $20–30k over Green Belt at equivalent seniority.
Yes - ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) is the most widely recognised software testing certification globally, with over 1.1 million certified testers in 130+ countries. The CTFL (Certified Tester Foundation Level) is the entry credential and is accepted by most employers that require formal testing qualifications. It is relevant for QA engineers, test analysts, and software developers who own quality.
